Learning Objectives
The Economic and Social differences in Capitalism vs. Communism- All students will be able to differentiate between communism and capitalism as an economic system and a political system. Be able to know the fundamental differences between the two, the main characteristics for each one, and what countries were communist and what ones were capitalist.
The Vietnam War as a military conflict and the Anti War movement in the US- Students will be able to tell me how the US got involved in the Vietnam War and why. Students will be able to give the advantages and disadvantages for of the US troops and the Vietcong and explain why the Vietcong won. Students will also be able to describe the US public support for the Vietnam War and why it started losing public support throughout the war.
Containment- Students will be able to understand what the core idea of Containment was. Students will know the origins of the idea of containment, the different forms of containment, where containment was used, and how it developed as the Cold War continued through the second half of the 20th century.
Key Events of the Cold War- Students will be able know the major events that influenced policy during the Cold War. These events include, but are not limited to The Partition of Germany, The Berlin Airlift, The Iron Curtain, NATO, The Cuban Missile Crisis, Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan, Red China, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.
